Presentation
IBEROJUR – the Ibero-American Institute of Legal Studies – aims, in an innovative way, to fill a gap in legal and scientific relations between Ibero-American countries, and its main mission is to strengthen relations between professionals and academics from these countries, promoting the joint development of legal studies in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
The University of Rzeszów (Poland), in cooperation with the Iberoamerican Institute of Legal Studies – IBEROJUR (Portugal), invites you to the 3rd International Scientific Conference: Medicine 4.0 (3rd AI BRIDGE) in the City of Rzeszów, Poland. This time we would like to focus on the MEDICINE 4.0: BETWEEN INNOVATION AND MODERN APPLICATION OF POLYMERS, LAW, AND CLINICAL PRACTICE.
The conference will foster an international and interdisciplinary dialogue on the transformation of medicine through artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and data-driven healthcare, addressing their intersection with medical law, clinical practice, ethics, patient rights, liability, technology, and healthcare policy.
The development of artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the way medical knowledge is generated, diseases are diagnosed, treatments are selected, and healthcare is delivered. AI-based systems are increasingly used to support diagnostic processes, clinical decision-making, medical imaging, personalized treatment, risk assessment, and patient monitoring. At the same time, their growing presence in healthcare raises complex questions concerning the limits of technological innovation, human oversight, professional responsibility, patient autonomy, and the protection of fundamental rights.
The use of AI in medicine therefore cannot be considered solely from a technological or clinical perspective. It requires an integrated approach combining medical science, law, ethics, economics, management, technology, and public policy. Particular attention should be paid to the distribution of responsibility when an AI-assisted medical decision leads to harm, including the potential liability of physicians, healthcare providers, manufacturers, software developers, and other actors involved in the design and deployment of AI systems.
Another important area of discussion concerns patients’ rights in an increasingly digital healthcare environment. The use of large-scale health datasets and AI systems raises questions regarding informed consent, privacy, data protection, transparency, explainability, non-discrimination, cybersecurity, and effective human oversight.
The conference will also address the regulatory challenges associated with the development and implementation of AI in healthcare, including the emerging European regulatory framework and the relationship between AI regulation, medical-device law, health law, and existing standards of professional medical practice.
The scope of the conference is deliberately broad and encourages contributions presenting national, European, comparative, and international perspectives. Particular value will be placed on interdisciplinary approaches combining theoretical analysis with clinical experience, technological developments, regulatory practice, and real-world applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
The event will accept scientific papers related to the thematic areas defined by the Organizing Committee (below), providing participants with the opportunity to present and discuss the results of their research before an international academic community.
